Reveal Brighter,
More Even-Looking Skin
Venus Versa® IPL photorejuvenation targets visible pigmentation and vascular concerns to improve the appearance of sun-damaged, uneven and discolored skin—without surgery.
What Is Venus Versa®?
Years of sun exposure can gradually leave their mark on your skin. Brown spots, freckles, areas of redness and uneven pigmentation can become more noticeable even when your skin is otherwise healthy.
Venus Versa® is a versatile aesthetic platform. For photorejuvenation, it uses Intense Pulsed Light, or IPL, with SmartPulse™ technology to deliver controlled pulses of broad-spectrum light to selected targets within the skin.
Rather than removing or resurfacing the entire outer layer of skin, IPL energy is selectively absorbed by pigment and blood vessels associated with certain discoloration. This allows treatment to address visible color irregularities while leaving surrounding tissue largely unaffected.
What Can Venus Versa® IPL Treat?
The Venus Versa® SR515 and SR580 IPL applicators are designed to address selected benign pigmented and vascular lesions.
Sun & Age Spots
IPL can target areas of concentrated pigment that become more visible after years of cumulative sun exposure.
Freckles
Selected freckles and other benign pigmented lesions may be treated to create a more even-looking complexion.
Facial Redness
IPL can target hemoglobin within visible vascular lesions and areas of persistent redness.
Rosacea-Related Redness
Appropriate vascular concerns associated with rosacea may be treated with the Venus Versa® IPL system.
Visible Small Vessels
Certain facial telangiectasias and other benign superficial vascular lesions can be targeted with IPL energy.
Uneven Skin Color
By addressing selected red and brown discoloration, photorejuvenation can create a clearer, more balanced appearance.
Sun Damage Accumulates Over Time
A tan may fade, but the effects of ultraviolet exposure can accumulate beneath the surface of the skin. Over time, areas of excess pigmentation and visible redness may become increasingly noticeable.
IPL photorejuvenation is designed to address the visible color changes associated with this accumulated damage. Instead of simply covering discoloration, light energy is directed toward the pigment or vascular structure responsible for its appearance.

- Freckles
- Uneven pigmentation
- Facial redness
- Visible small vessels
- Blotchy-looking skin tone
Light Energy Targets Color Within the Skin
Different structures absorb different wavelengths of light, allowing IPL to selectively address pigmentation and vascular concerns.
Light Is Delivered
The Venus Versa® applicator delivers controlled pulses of filtered broad-spectrum light to the treatment area.
The Target Absorbs Energy
Melanin absorbs light when treating pigmentation, while hemoglobin is targeted when treating vascular lesions.
Targeted Tissue Responds
The absorbed light is converted to heat within the selected target while treatment parameters are controlled.
Skin Clears Gradually
Treated discoloration changes gradually as the body processes the affected pigment or vascular structure.
Consistent Energy. Controlled Treatment.
Venus Versa® combines IPL with SmartPulse™ technology, which is designed to maintain a consistent energy and wavelength profile throughout each pulse.
The system also incorporates real-time contact cooling to help manage the temperature of the applicator during treatment and improve patient comfort.
Treatment settings are selected according to factors such as the condition being treated, skin characteristics, and the type and depth of discoloration.
Good Candidates for Venus Versa®
IPL is not automatically appropriate for every type of discoloration or every skin tone, making a professional evaluation an important part of treatment planning.
Visible Sun Damage
You are bothered by brown spots, freckles or other selected pigmentation concerns.
Facial Redness
You want to reduce the appearance of appropriate vascular lesions or persistent redness.
Non-Surgical Goals
You prefer improvement without incisions, injections or a surgical recovery.
Realistic Expectations
You understand that improvement is progressive and multiple sessions may be recommended.
Not Every Brown Spot Should Be Treated With IPL
One of the most important parts of an IPL treatment is identifying exactly what is causing the discoloration. Different pigmented lesions can look similar but may require very different approaches.
Your skin characteristics, recent sun exposure, medications, treatment history and specific concerns should all be reviewed before treatment.
Suspicious or changing lesions should be medically evaluated rather than treated simply as cosmetic pigmentation.

What Does Venus Versa® IPL Feel Like?
Patients typically feel brief warmth or a snapping sensation as individual pulses of light are delivered. Sensitivity varies by treatment area and individual.
Venus Versa® incorporates a real-time cooling system designed to help keep the treatment surface comfortable while energy is being delivered.
Unlike surgical rejuvenation, there are no incisions and no surgical anesthesia or recovery period.
Fast. Controlled. Non-Invasive.
The large IPL treatment area and rapid pulse delivery allow many photorejuvenation sessions to be completed efficiently.
How Many IPL Treatments Will I Need?
The number of sessions needed depends on the type, amount and severity of discoloration being treated, along with your individual response.
Dr. Slack's practice has traditionally recommended approximately three to four Venus Versa® treatments for many patients with sun-damage concerns.
Some patients may require fewer or additional sessions. Your recommended treatment plan should be based on your skin rather than a predetermined number of appointments.
Treatment time and number of sessions vary by patient and treatment area.
What Happens After Treatment?
IPL requires substantially less recovery than an invasive or ablative procedure, although temporary skin changes can occur.
Temporary Redness
The skin may appear mildly red or feel warm following treatment.
Pigment May Darken
Treated brown spots may initially appear darker before gradually fading or flaking.
Protect Your Skin
Careful sun protection is particularly important after an IPL treatment.
Resume Your Routine
Most patients can resume normal daily activities quickly after treatment.
What Results Can I Expect?
As treated pigmentation and vascular concerns respond, the complexion may gradually appear clearer, brighter and more even.
Results depend on the condition being treated, the degree of sun damage, skin characteristics and the number of sessions performed.
IPL can address existing visible damage, but it cannot prevent future UV damage. Consistent sunscreen and sun-protective habits are important for preserving your results.
Sun Protection Still Matters
Photorejuvenation can improve existing discoloration, but continued unprotected sun exposure can create new pigmentation over time.
Venus Versa® IPL FAQs
Answers to common questions about IPL photorejuvenation, sun damage, treatment comfort, recovery and results.
Venus Versa® is a multi-application aesthetic platform. Its IPL photorejuvenation applicators use Intense Pulsed Light with SmartPulse™ technology to treat selected benign pigmented and vascular lesions.
No. IPL and laser treatments both use light energy, but they are different technologies. IPL delivers a range of wavelengths rather than the single wavelength typically associated with a laser.
The Venus Versa® SR515 and SR580 applicators are FDA-cleared for selected benign pigmented and vascular lesions, including concerns such as hyperpigmentation, freckles, lentigines, rosacea and certain visible vascular lesions.
Yes. IPL photorejuvenation can target melanin within appropriate benign pigmented lesions, including sun or age spots, to produce a more even-looking complexion.
Venus Versa® IPL can be used for selected benign vascular lesions and redness concerns, including rosacea and certain superficial visible blood vessels.
Sensitivity varies, but patients commonly describe brief warmth or a snapping sensation as each IPL pulse is delivered. The Venus Versa® system incorporates contact cooling designed to improve comfort.
Treatment time depends on the size and number of areas being treated. Many photorejuvenation sessions can be completed in approximately 15 to 30 minutes.
The number varies according to the concern and amount of discoloration. Approximately three to four sessions have commonly been recommended by Dr. Slack's practice for photorejuvenation, but individual treatment plans vary.
Downtime is generally minimal. Temporary redness, warmth or darkening of treated pigmentation can occur, but most patients can resume normal daily activities quickly.
Targeted pigment may temporarily darken after absorbing IPL energy. The treated pigment can then gradually fade or flake as the skin processes it.
Recent tanning or significant sun exposure can affect IPL safety because the treatment targets melanin. Your recent sun exposure should be discussed before treatment, and you may be advised to postpone your session.
Treated lesions may improve significantly, but IPL does not stop the aging process or prevent new sun damage. New pigmentation and vascular changes can develop over time, so sun protection and occasional maintenance treatments may be recommended.
No treatment is appropriate for every patient. Because IPL interacts with melanin, skin type, tanning, pigmentation and the specific condition being treated must be evaluated before deciding whether IPL is appropriate.
